Lobsters occasionally vibrate their carapace. This creates a sound.
It appears as if striped bass find this aversive and avoid lobsters that make sounds.
Some lobsters vibrate when bothered. We record this with an accelerometer glued to their carapace. The sound you hear is an amplified version of the vibrations.
Some lobsters will make sounds when approached by fish and when they make these sounds the fish will typically rapidly move away from them.
